I had been longing to review one of these for a while, ever since they came out with them. And I finally got the chance to be behind the wheel of one. I liked the ST, but the RS really is where it’s at.
Am I pissed Ford killed it for the US? Absolutely. This, is a great loss...
What is your opinion on the Focus RS?

A tune really helps it. A friend of mine has one, and I drove it before and after he did a couple of minor mods (intercooler and tune) and it’s much more fun now.
Also, the RS is gone worldwide for the time being.

A lot of fun to drive, an awful car to own.

I know I may be in the minority, but I absolutely love mine. Purchased it back in March when I traded in an ST, and there is not a single mile that goes by without a smile on my face. Mine is bone stock, but I really have no need at this point to mess with it yet. I have a second set of wheels and tires for winter duties and I can attest that 18” wheels and a wider sidewalk tire do indeed help the ride. I use it to commute, take the kids to daycare, and run other errands when we don’t use my wife’s SUV. We have two kids and the whole family fits just fine in the RS so we do use it for trips on occasion. Overall this is a perfect daily driver for me. Also, i’m 5,11” and 150 and my wife is also fit and active but shorter than I am so we think that the seats are wonderful. I can understand how someone taller or larger could have issues, but if I may be honest I think that those larger folks may need to turn the complaints on the seats back to their own health rather than the fit of those Recaros.

A stock one, besides the FRS, is the most disappointing car I’ve ever driven. Reliability issues aside, now that I’ve driven one a couple of times, I would definitely get a Golf R instead. A better car stock, a better car tuned.

I love my ST, so the underlying car is great. I can imagine the tiny gas tank is even worse with a bigger engine though.

I actually mention it in the review so I am aware of the uber escort. They are sexy AF. But, the Focus RS would beat it in just about every category
, as it should.

At my fittest I was 180 lbs, now I am 220. The recaro’s are fine and we actually own a 2012 vanilla focus which our family fits into nicely. The 07 Grand Marquis gets used for the bigger trips though as it rides more comfortably. Sitting behind myself (as show in the review) just isn’t as comfortable.

Driven a modded Golf R with the APR stage 2 tune. Flappy paddle gearbox too. It was almost GTR like quick. I still enjoyed shifting the gears in the Focus RS and would probably prefer it over the golf R if I had to make a choice between the two. I am aware the Golf R comes in a manual too though... And it does have better rear seats than the Focus.

The Europeans don’t have to wait long though... I think it will be back for 2020. The US loses all cool Fords. (Mustang will still be around, but I am talking about smaller displacement fun machines that can make due with a turbo 4 without the feeling you are missing something).

I’d manage... Although I hate filling up my commuter car with a passion. Now that I telecommute 1 day out of the week I only have to fill up weekly. It was biweekly and that sucked.
